I was born and raised a farmer’s daughter in Mathis, Texas so I’m a country girl at heart but love the convenience of the “city” for shopping close by. Bryan/College Station meets all my needs! After graduating from Texas A&M University in 1987 with a business marketing degree, I started my first big girl job with JC Penney in Dallas in the buying department of the once large catalog division for 14 years. Following my husband Barton’s career, we moved to southern Utah where I turned into a busy stay at home mom enjoying the classroom help in my kid’s schools, PTA volunteering and our church’s children’s ministries leader. Never a dull moment! Of course, living in southern Utah, we were an outdoor family. Hiking in the summers in all the great national parks and snow skiing in the winters was a blast. After 6 years, my husband’s company moved us to the St Louis area for 7 years. There, the kids were getting older and I became the epitome of “dance mom” and “band mom”. I spent many a weekends attending competitions and cheering loudly from the audience and volunteering with all those fundraisers. For more fun, we became St Louis Cardinals fans and enjoyed many baseball games. The kids even performed dance/band at pregame festivities. I sure will miss that part.
As for me, a couple of close friends and I started our own wine education classes. Yes, we called ourselves the Stay At Home Winos! We studied various wines and the histories of wine, etc. We have a love of ALL varietals, so tasting and pairing wines with food became a fun pastime. Of course, we had to take a few trips to California and Oregon to “research”. We even incorporated exercise! Yep, the Sip and Cycle wine tours were so fun! Bart and I enjoy traveling and visiting wineries throughout the US and look forward to their next adventure to Italy.
Some of our other favorite pastime hobbies include going to our property in East Texas for hunting and target practice—either pistol or skeet. We will be welcoming our new Australian Shepherd in a couple of weeks, so can’t wait to train him for hunting and cattle herding.
Being out of state for 11 years, it was time to make our way back home to Texas, so in the summer of 2013 my husband started a new job in College Station, much sooner than we expected. With our son still having two more years of high school and extremely involved, we didn’t have the heart to move him to another state, therefore we spent the next two years commuting back and forth from St. Louis to College Station until he graduated in May, 2015. However, or daughter was attending Texas A&M at the time, so 2 here and 2 there. That’s what we do for our family!! But the best part of 2016 was that Bart and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary! Yes, time really does fly by.
Now that our daughter, Taylor, a May 2016 Texas A&M graduate is working in Dallas and son, Dylan, a sophomore at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, we are Empty Nesters! Whoop! It was finally time for me to pursue my longtime dream of joining a real estate team.
My focus in real estate is to work with YOU to find your dream home. Whether it’s your First home, a Favorite home or your final Forever home, I’m excited for the future.
