The History On Father’s Day

This weekend we are celebrating Father’s Day.

According to HISTORY.com, the first celebration of fathers took place in 1908 at a West Virginia church in memory of the father’s who lost their lives in an explosion at the Fairmont Coal Company mines in Monongah. However, this was a one time event.

In 1910, after a young woman gained enough support from the community, Washington state celebrated the first Father’s Day on June 19. The holiday slowly spread and, eventually, in 1924, the other states were urged to celebrate.

Now, in the United States, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June.

If you are looking for ways to enjoy the weekend with your father, think about trying something new. For instance, try a new sport, walk a new trail or try something new at y’all’s favorite restaurant. But, most of all, enjoy each other’s company.

We wish everyone a Happy Father’s Day and a wonderful weekend!
